You do not need to complete a boater education course to purchase a recreational fishing license or to go fishing in Louisiana.
If you were born after January 1, 1984, you must complete an LDWF-approved boater education course to operate motorboats over 10 horsepower.
However, if you are accompanied by someone over the age of 18 who has successfully completed an LDWF-approved boater education course (if required), you are not required to complete the course yourself.
